WITH BEAR’S MOM IN BECKHAM COUNTY TODAY. THANKS TO THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS, EVERY TIME AN ELK CITY POLICE OFFICER IS CALLED TO A SCENE WITH CHILDREN, THEY CAN NOW REMEMBER THE LIFE OF A BABY BOY WITH THESE SPECIAL BEARS. HIS NAME IS BARRETT, AND IT’S ACTUALLY SORRY. IT IS A HEBREW NAME AND IT MEANS PROTECTION OF THE LORD. AND I PICKED THAT NAME SPECIFICALLY FOR HIM BECAUSE I WANTED HIM TO ALWAYS BE PROTECTED. AND LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT HE WAS ACTUALLY GOING TO BE PROTECTED IN ETERNITY, FOREVER. IN MARCH 2015, ANNIE BLISS’S BABY BOY BARRETT BEAR MACCABEE PASSED AWAY AFTER AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO VACCINES. HE WAS TWO MONTHS OLD. THE VACCINES WERE JUST TOO MUCH FOR HIS BODY AND CAUSED HIS BODY TO SHUT DOWN. TEN YEARS LATER, AN ANONYMOUS COMMUNITY MEMBER IS HONORING HER BEAR WITH A SPECIAL GIFT TO THE ELK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT. 50 TEDDY BEARS TO GIVE OUT ON CALLS WITH KIDS ON SCENE. IT JUST GOES TO SHOW THE THE AMOUNT OF CARE THE COMMUNITY HAS FOR OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS. ASSISTANT CHIEF JOHN COOK SAYS THE BEARS ARE ALREADY IN CRUISERS, READY TO BE GIFTED. HE EXPLAINS WHY THE LITTLE BEARS WILL BE A BIG HELP WHEN ANSWERING TO CALLS. IT ALSO LETS THEM KNOW THAT OUR OFFICER IS NOT THERE TO BE MEAN, THAT HE’S THERE TO HELP. WHILE ANNIE HAD LIMITED TIME WITH HER BABY BEAR, IT’S CRAZY TO IMAGINE WHAT HE WOULD BE LIKE. BUT I CAN’T WAIT TO GET TO HEAVEN AND SEE HIM THERE. SHE’S PROUD. BARRETT CONTINUES TO MAKE A LARGE IMPACT ON HER COMMUNITY. IT JUST MAKES ME SO HAPPY AND SO PROUD BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, HE MAY HAVE PASSED AWAY AND HE MAY NOT BE HERE PHYSICALLY WITH US, BUT HIS MEMORY IS LIVING ON AND IT’S GOING TO BE PASSED ON TO THESE OTHER KIDS SO THAT THEY CAN HAVE SOMETHING TO COMFORT THEM IN HORRIBLE SITUATIONS.
